BIRMINGHAM, Alabama A small group of state legislators met privately throughout the day Monday, trying Converse New Releases 2018 to hammer out a deal on a plan for addressing Jefferson County's deepening financial crisis.
"We didn't have but one option, but he was receptive to bringing us back a couple of different options that we can look at and take to the public and our constituents who utilize indigent care . . .," Robinson said. "We as Democrats are trying to save indigent care in Jefferson County."

"Everybody is saying let's look at a comprehensive approach to not just the revenue but the structural problems in the county accounting and trying to find a solution to indigent care in Jefferson County," DeMarco said.
Robinson said he felt Dr. Michael's presentation on indigent care was a nice plan, but Democrats asked for additional options.

Robinson said some issues discussed were a nonstarter among Democrats, including retiring the occupational tax. "Wanting to sunset it is something we couldn't accept," Robinson said. "That is unacceptable. This has to be a long term fix for the county. and also included Jim Pratt, a Birmingham lawyer who is a facilitator between the county and legislators; and Dr. history and is rapidly spending its cash reserves. The Legislature has a maximum of nine meeting days left in its current session that must end by May 21.
"This is a complicated problem that was created by years of fraud and corruption on the public, and we're trying to finally get it right for the citizens of Jefferson County," DeMarco said.

Also on Monday, some lawmakers said they were disappointed at being left out.
the county is the collapse of its general fund revenue after the Alabama Supreme Court killed an occupational tax that generated about $66 million a year for the county. The court ruled that the state Legislature made procedural errors when it approved that tax. Legislators at Monday's meeting said they are aware of what's at stake and acknowledged the challenge of finding a solution to the county's problems with less than a month remaining in the legislative session.
