Downsides for the game include Kuu's sharp as a marble AI and the randomness of his skill unlocks. The game can also get unbalanced if you luck into a powerful weapon drop, which can happen even relatively early in the game. It's still a fun and entertaining rogue like game, however, and also the perfect title for introducing newcomers to the genre.
system and lots of dungeon raiding and loot. It also means you can potentially lose all your valuable dungeon spoils should you wipe out during a mission. Ouch.

deep, featuring regular and group attacks, crazy specials and the ability to stack and throw characters. Folks with limited time might be intimidated or discouraged by the amount of grinding required by the game, including the number of times characters musts be reincarnated back to Level 1 to pump up their stats for some of the post game missions. If you love a solid tactical JRPG with as much content as a law textbook in college, however, this devilish game will be heaven for you.
Anyway, this game basically chronicles a young girl's journey to find ingredients for the Legendary Magic Curry in order to save her favorite curry establishment from the big bad chain that just moved into town. This means lots of dungeon raiding to find all sorts of loot for your curry and champagne dreams. You can also feed extra items to your partner Kuu to level him up and re unlock his skills given that he resets to Level 1 after every dungeon run just like you. Kuu, by the way, is not to be confused with my co worker Ku who waxes poetic about koi fish and bakes a mean chocolate chip cookie.
Like the heroic tales of old that inspired the genre, role playing games can lay on the drama pretty thick. But as a popular clown and undeniable psychopath once said, "Why so Converse Mens Sneakers serious?" This week, I take a look at three Japanese RPGs with a wacky side. Up first is "The Guided Fate Paradox" for the PlayStation 3. Made by the same developer that created the "Disgaea" series of JRPGs, "Guided Fate Paradox" diverges from the "Disgaea" tactical style by serving up roguelike gameplay instead. This means eschewing large party groups for a more intimate buddy Converse Modern High
Speaking of Disgaea, the next game in this week's JRPG roundup is "Disgaea Dimension 2: A Brighter Darkness." The game series that first proved that even Power Rangers are no match for the Second Amendment, this direct sequel the original reunites Laharl, Etna and Flonne for more devilish dysfunction and tactical hijinks. Apparently, poor Laharl is struggling to gain some R E S P E C T from the Netherworld's denizens, so he decides to channel his inner Aretha Franklin and teach all the disrespectful chumps a lesson.
Animation is quite good for a hand drawn 2D game, and the number of costumes, gear and skills is expansive. As someone who prefers using the original Japanese language track in games like this, I think the English localization is also pretty solid, although some of the voices are better than others. Admittedly, rogue like games can be frustrating for newcomers to the genre. If you love them, however, "The Guided Fate Paradox" definitely hits the spot.
If there's one thing "Disgaea D2" has going for it, it's that there is a lot of things to do. In fact, there might be a bit too much. For starters, you can get a wide range of allied troops either through simple recruitment or good, old kidnapping. I mean, you're literally a demon, so that's just how it goes. You can also pass bills in the Demon Assembly via good old bribery and intimidation, also known as just another day in New Jersey.

school student who meets a mysterious girl and suddenly finds himself surrounded by even more girls and turning into a god. Hey, that's exactly how my high school life went, too! You then spend the rest of the game trying to change the fates of certain characters by entering a mirror world.
For our final game, we're looking at another rogue like JRPG in "Sorcery Saga: The Curse of the Great Curry God" from Aksys Games. As the title implies, this game doesn't take itself too seriously, which is actually a good thing. It's also just so gosh darned cute that I just want to hug it and squeal like a little girl. I mean, I know a, uh, friend who just wants to hug it and squeal like a little girl. (Yeah, that's it) What a wimp that guy is.
