Ranque was born in Leyte, one of the regions hit hard by Typhoon Haiyan, and lived in the Philippines until he was 6 years old. He visited his homeland a few months ago and he said his entire family mother and father, grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews still live in the country.
Ranque said it is normally tough to communicate, but the storm has made it near impossible. He's not sure what the extent of the damage is or whether his family's home withstood the typhoon.
